He studied at the National Conservatory of Mexico and served as artistic director for several well-known choirs, including the National Youth Choir, University National Choir, and Madrigalist Choir of the National Institute of Fine Arts. He has received numerous prizes for his musical activities, including first prize in the Third National Contest of Choral Music, and has participated in many contemporary music festivals. Jorge was featured as one the inaugural composers in the 2009 VocalEssence ¡Cantaré! program; he will serve as mentor to two new composers participating in this season’s program.

In commemoration of the Mexican Bicentennial, VocalEssence has commissioned Jorge to compose a new work for chorus and marimba that will be featured on the April 2010 Mallets & Melodies subscription concert.
