Conductor Nicholas McGegan is one of the world’s leading authorities on Baroque and Classical repertoire and has become a favorite guest of major orchestras and opera companies around the globe. He appears regularly at the Aspen, Ravinia and Mostly Mozart festivals. Since 1990 McGegan has been artistic director of the International Handel-Festival Göttingen, the oldest festival for Baroque music in the world. In 2005, he celebrated 20 years as music director of the San Francisco-based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (PBO), a leading original-instrument orchestra. He is also founder-director of the period-instrument chamber music ensemble The Arcadian Academy. McGegan was born in England, studied at Cambridge and Oxford universities, and received an honorary degree from the Royal College of Music in London. He has a strong commitment to young musicians and is a regular mentor to the New World Symphony. McGegan’s hobbies include food, wine, reading, travel, and raising roses at his home in Berkeley, California.
