¡Cantaré! in the Twin Cities

In the 2011-2012 school year, Mexican composers Jorge Cózatl and Rodrigo Michelet Cadet Díaz will spend four weeks over the course of three visits to work with elementary, high school, college and community choral singers, exploring Mexican cultural and choral music traditions.

The program will culminate in the creation of at least eight new music compositions by the above composers, two of which will be premiered by VocalEssence, Rose Ensemble and the University of St. Thomas at the Música de México Concert [link to concert page] at Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis on March 9 & 10, 2012.  The remainder will be premiered at the ¡Cantaré! Community Concert at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center on May 22, 2012.

Jorge Cózatl will write music for choirs from the following high schools and universities:

  • Burnsville High School, Burnsville
  • Henry Sibley High School, Mendota Heights
  • Humboldt Senior High School, St. Paul
  • University of St Thomas, Minneapolis


Rodrigo Cadet will be working with the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers and the elementary school-age students from these groups:

  • Academia Cesar Chavez School, St. Paul
  • Adams Spanish Immersion, St. Paul
  • Whittier International School, Minneapolis
