Production Assistant, Welcome Christmas

Contract/Temporary Position

VocalEssence seeks a motivated, energetic individual to serve as production assistant for five Christmas concerts in December at various venues. 

About VocalEssence

Mission: VocalEssence is a champion of choral music of all genres, celebrating the vocal experience through commissions, concerts and community engagement.

Founded in 1969, VocalEssence is recognized internationally for innovative exploration of music for voices and instruments. In addition to championing lesser-known works of the past, VocalEssence has an unwavering commitment to today's composers. Each year, Artistic Director and founder Philip Brunelle leads the organization in an engaging concert series featuring the 130-voice VocalEssence Chorus and the 32-voice Ensemble Singers along with major soloists and instrumentalists. Most seasons include six to eight subscription programs in venues located throughout the Twin Cities. Concerts are broadcast to a broad regional audience over Minnesota Public Radio and are heard nationally and internationally via American Public Media. VocalEssence is a five-time winner of the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming.  

 

Job responsibilities

  • Manage hired stage crew and load-in / load-out transitions
  • Coordinate riser and platform set-up at Plymouth Church and concert set-up at other venues
  • Attend rehearsals the week prior to performances and coordinate any staging needs
  • Work together with the Director of Operations and Education & Volunteer Manger
  • Act as stage manager for performances and work closely with the Artistic Director and Orchestra Contractor to assure smooth flow of concert program and operations

 

Experience

  • Experience in technical stage support, stage management, or the performing arts is preferred.
  • Experience working with a performing ensemble
  • Knowledge of riser set-up, Wenger platforms, stage diagrams, and orchestra set-up helpful 

 

Expectations

  • Be present at all scheduled call times
  • Be flexible and organized
  • Able to troubleshoot and react quickly to issues
  • Have a car or reliable transportation to get to Plymouth Church, Apple Valley, Normandale Lutheran (Edina), and Trinity Lutheran (Stillwater) 

 

Time Commitment 

Preliminary training and orientation meeting at VocalEssence (TBD), schedule determined by applicant's availability) - 1 hour


November 29:

Crew: 9:00am - 12:00pm
Rehearsal: 6:30 – 9:30pm

November 30:
Rehearsal: 6:30 – 9:30pm

December 2:

Rehearsal: 6:30 – 9:30pm

December 4:

Rehearsal: 9:30am – 12:00pm
Crew: 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Crew: 6:00-7:15pm
Performance: 7:30 – 9:30pm
Crew: 9:30 – 10:30pm


December 5:

Crew: 12:00pm – 2:00pm
Performance: 4:00 – 6:00pm
Crew: 6:00-7:30pm
 
December 11:

Crew: 6:00-7:15pm
Performance: 7:30 – 9:30pm
Crew: 9:30-10:30pm

December 12:

Crew: 12:00pm – 2:00pm
Performance: 4:00 – 6:00pm

December 13:

Crew: 9:00am – 12:00pm

 

Compensation

A contract fee will be determined based on experience and availability. Range of $600-$750 for the commitment as described above.
