WITNESS Artist Workshops
VocalEssence offers WITNESS partner schools the opportunity for their students to interact with one of our WITNESS Teaching Artists. Teaching Artists
explore the yearly program theme through their artistic discipline, creating an integrative academic experience for students combining
the study of African American culture with art, music, social studies,
literature, character building and other areas of school curriculum.
Depending on the artist, workshop activities may include composing a
song; expressing a poem through movement; or painting a mural about hope
and courage.
VocalEssence provides two days of workshops free of charge to all
partner schools. Subsidies are available for schools seeking to further
enrich students' experience through extended workshops or residencies. To sign up as a 2012-13 WITNESS Partner School, submit the WITNESS Partner School Agreement or contact Elissa Weller at eweller@vocalessence.org or 612-547-1452.

What do teachers say about the Artists’ Workshops?
“The students loved both the material and the presentation. Anita
and T. Mychael's dynamic and interactive approach was very exciting to them.”
- Deborah Salmon
Trinity School at River Ridge
“They really seemed to enjoy the workshop. I was impressed with the variety of student
group presentations the second day. Danielle
gave them enough guidance so they could be successful, but not so much that it
was her work instead of theirs!”
- Mona Myott
Blessed Trinity Catholic School
