WITNESS: The Poet Sings will explore how social change evolves through music and poetry. Minneapolis based hip-hop artist, Nur-D will join forces with the VocalEssence Chorus, Singers Of This Age, and Vintage Voices to trace the lineage of West African griots and African American poets from the Harlem Renaissance and beyond, juxtaposed alongside present-day storytellers (spoken word artists, rappers, poets, etc.) who use their voices to make good trouble. Featuring our second Black Owned Business and Storytellers Showcase.

Nur-D is a hip-hop artist hailing from Minnesota, who brings something fresh to the scene. His music has heart, wit, and a message, delivered in a style that’s entirely his own.
We are thrilled to bring back the Black Owned Business and Storytellers Showcase featuring a showcase of Black makers, entrepreneurs, and storytellers who use their voices to make good trouble.
The WITNESS School Program is now in its 37th year, offering online workshops with experienced Teaching Artists for students grades 4-12, providing teachers with professional development and classroom resources, and inviting schools to attend the VocalEssence WITNESS Young People’s Concerts, featuring VocalEssence singers and guest artists.
