Tickets are still available; on-site ticketing at the Convention Center will open at 6:30 PM.\nWelcome to the North Star state where the singers are bountiful\, the conductors are inspiring\, and the composers are above average. As part of the National American Choral Directors Conference\, sample our unique sound with performances by top artists\, and hear new and classic works by famed composers including Minnesota’s only winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Music\, Dominick Argento. Round out your evening with a sing-along led by Minnesota hometown star Garrison Keillor. \nThe Singers – Minnesota Choral Artists\nVocalEssence Chorus & Ensemble Singers\nMetropolitan Symphony Orchestra\nGarrison Keillor\nPhilip Brunelle\, conductor\nMatthew Culloton\, conductor\nG. Phillip Shoultz\, III\, conductor \nPARKING \nAlways allow plenty of time for parking\, especially during adverse weather or in the case of significant downtown events. Plan to arrive at the ramp or lot at least 30 minutes before performance time to avoid delay. \nBelow is a list of nearby parking ramps. Please note\, parking fees vary by ramp. Click to view a Minneapolis Convention Center parking map. \nConvention Center Ramp (above ground parking) – 3rd Avenue South (RECOMMENDED) \nThis ramp is nearest to the Auditorium performance venue; however\, the ramp is not skyway accessible and there is no drop-off available at the East entrance to the Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC). To get to the Auditorium\, walk across 3rd Avenue South and use the outside entrance to the MCC. \nPlaza Municipal Ramp (underground parking) – 2nd Avenue & 12th Street \nThis ramp is nearest to the main entrance and drop-off area of the MCC. Exit the ramp and cross Grant Street directly to the MCC main entrance. The Auditorium performance venue is just a short walk from the entrance– proceed straight ahead as you enter the building. The ramp is skyway accessible; however\, please note the skyway route does require additional walk time. \n  \n                 \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS\n \n

SUMMARY:VocalEssence WITNESS Community Conversations: Legacies of Strength
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique event featuring descendants of people who share a special connection to Fort Snelling. Lynne Jackson will share stories of her great-great-grandparents\, Dred and Harriet Scott\, whose fight for freedom led our nation closer to civil war. Sharon Harper will speak about her ancestor\, Robert Hickman\, who escaped slavery during the Civil War and found a new life in Minnesota. \nNow 160 years since the controversial Dred Scott ruling\, these guest presenters will share stories of strength\, courage and perseverance as they recount the experiences of their ancestors and exploring the importance of legacy. Following the presentation\, join in a conversation about the meaning of legacy and its importance in the 21st century. \nAs part of the VocalEssence WITNESS program\, this series of dialogues aims to connect history to the present and inspire our community through dialogue to envision and work towards a better tomorrow. VocalEssence WITNESS celebrates the artistic contributions of African-Americans to the fine arts and to our common cultural heritage through concerts\, recordings and comprehensive educational programs. \nThis program is a partnership between VocalEssence and Historic Fort Snelling and is sponsored by the Knight Foundation. \n\n \n \n \n \n Lynne Jackson\n \n \n \n \n \n Sharon Harper\n \n \n\nThank you to our sponsor
