The 2026-2027 concert season was developed with these guiding principles in mind, rooted in our core values:

Discovery
Baked into the DNA of VocalEssence is our focus on new music and new composers. This season will feature the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by composer Shruthi Rajasekar and the Midwest premiere of a VocalEssence co-commissioned song cycle based on the Seven Deadly Sins.

Innovation
VocalEssence believes in pushing the boundaries of choral performance. This season’s WITNESS concert will explore how social change moves through music and poetry, from West African tradition to contemporary voices.

Masterworks
This year, the season will open with a grand performance of epic proportions – expanding our singers to 200+ voices, with full symphony orchestra and 12 harps for a performance that is sure to captivate and enthrall.

Collaboration
Throughout the season, VocalEssence will celebrate our collaborative spirit, working with partners, guest artists, and ensembles outside the organization’s usual orbit.

Community
At VocalEssence, Together We Sing is more than just a tagline, it is an intention that resonates through our concert season. This season will bring together voices of all ages and backgrounds across our four performance ensembles and pull you, our audience, into the mix with our signature community sing-along moments.
