Inspired by the work of Presidential inaugural poet, Amanda Gorman, Change Sings invites each of us to see ourselves as changemakers. Through singing, movement, spoken word, and visual art, the VocalEssence Singers Of This Age and guest artists will activate our imagination to inspire us into action. Change Sings features choral standards and co-created original works inspired by interactive workshops and conversations held in Twin Cities neighborhoods.
• Amanda Gorman is the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate and the youngest inaugural poet. She delivered her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” at age twenty-two, at the January 20, 2021 presidential inauguration.
• VocalEssence Singers Of This Age is a dynamic group comprised of 40 young people from Twin Cities area schools who sing, dance, write their own music, rap, and—most importantly—reflect the diversity of our community in its membership.
• This performance is a culmination of workshops, conversations, and neighborhood performances that have been happening throughout the last several years.
