Students are buzzing with excitement about the upcoming VocalEssence ¡Cantaré! Community Concerts on Monday, May 23 at 6 and 8 pm at the Ordway Concert Hall.
Northport Elementary School students have been practicing moving while singing. Composer Alephsus Valdés has written a song for them using iPads. “Máscaras” or “Masks” includes students covering and uncovering their faces with the tablets and switching back and forth between their own faces and the virtual masks.
“It is about all the masks we wear both socially and personally,” describes composer Alephsus Valdés. “I wanted to integrate modern technology because I think that now, more than ever, we hide behind “digital personas” that do not necessarily reflect our true selves, especially by means of social networks.”
Come and hear “Máscaras” as well as many more premieres. Tickets are free and available online or at various community locations. You are welcome to join us at the 6 pm concert, 8 pm concert or both. Our performers are split into two concerts this year in order to ensure that our performances remain one-hour in length.
